"Alright, you ready?"

Remington had apparated himself and Annie to the center so when she opened her eyes she'd be able to see everything around, but he had his hands over her eyes as he stood behind her. It was meant to be a surprise after-all. He had wanted some place like this; old and historic basically but also interesting. Leaning to her ear then,

"Surprise."

He took his hands away from her eyes as he said it, a slight grin on his face as he stepped back to let her take it all in.

Annie had...not been having a good week. Whatever it was, she was starting to feel less and less like herself. The storm they'd had shook her windows, vibrated against her walls, and she'd not slept a wink.

No, she sat there shaking the entire time.

So when Remington had showed up offering a trip, Annie was more than ready to get out of there. Just get out of the room. Get out of the country. Go. Far, far away.

"So, so ready." She responded to him, leaning against him as he covered her eyes. She was using other senses to try and guess where they were; the smell around her just was saturated nature, silence, and a slightly chilly breeze caressing her skin. The cold didn't bother her any longer; she was used to being cold, and even by contrast, he felt warm against her.

When he said surprise and stepped back, Annie took a deep breath before letting her lashes flutter open, adjusting to the amount of light there was...

...and then gasped.

"We're? This is? Are we...??" In her excitement, she couldn't even get out complete sentences, her searching eyes scouring every inch as she spun around and around, laughing joyfully as she just spread out her arms and stopped to look at him. "We're in the Colosseum?!"

Naturally though, she immediately wrapped her arms around him in a great big hug with her simple utterance of, "Ohmygod it's so big!!"

Annie's excitement over the whole thing had him in good spirits about it. The past few days had been so completely silent that it even unnerved him. He had stayed holed up in the library surrounded by books for comfort and the occasional visit from Clara who wanted to make sure he was okay. Naturally nothing was wrong but he didn't care to talk either.

At her reaction he let her stammer it out and outright laughed when she had stopped to suddenly hug him and he hugged her in response.

"We're in the Colosseum," Remington told her. "It's ours for now. Needless to say wards to keep out muggles on a historical place is hard to do."

He grinned when he leaned away to see her reaction to that. Hey, he wanted it to be perfect, big deal. Shrugging his shoulder's then he added,

"So if you want to have a run around the place you can. Scream for the hell of it? Go ahead. No one can get in to ask what happened."

The screaming idea was just because from experience it tended to help if you were frustrated. Maybe that was just him at the moment though, but he was putting it aside.

Annie couldn't help but grin when he laughed at her hug, though he responded to it, and she just held on as he explained that the whole Colosseum was their playground, unshared by anyone else because he had taken the time and effort to ward it for them. Annie may not have been the best at magical protection, but even she knew how draining it was to even do one single room, let alone the entire historical area. The Colosseum was huge in itself, and then she was sure there was all that excess magic, the old stuff that had lingered, and he'd done it anyways.

"You...warded this entire place." She repeated, her eyes widened in pure admiration as she looked from him to the structure around her as if to solidify that yes, they were talking about the same area.

Holy shit.

He seemed to be brushing it off though, like it was a big deal, as he added that they could play. With a squeal, she threw her arms around him again for one more quick hug, and then turned. Instead of running though, she climbed up one of the remaining walls on the lowest level and jumped from one to another to look around. However, before long she was coming back to him, and blatantly jumped off of it for him to catch her. After a laugh, she pointed to the highest point of the place. Breathless, eyes shining, and feeling a helluva lot better than she had all week, she told him, "I want to go up there. I want to see Rome. Take me?"

Remington smiled as Annie took off to play and he wandered along the lowest level, following her that way basically. It was definitely good to see her in such a good mood, and when she suddenly jumped he instinctively caught her as he shook his head. She liked to play with danger that was for sure. At her request though he grinned.

"As you wish."

Setting her on his feet was only for a moment as he picked her up again; this time one arm around her back and one under her knees. He felt now he didn't have to be so cautious as to what was allowed and what wasn't since their last encounter. The stairs were practically non-existent being so deteriorated from the years and weather itself, but he still made it with Annie in his arms though he may have used the whole vampire speed to his advantage just once to make the distance easier.

"What do you think?"

He had been there a few times and around Italy in general, but it was always exciting to see. As if it was new again somehow and he was seeing it for the first time. Another reason to love it there so much.

Annie laughed when, albeit catching her, he shook his head at her. She would have landed on her feet anyways; cats always do. However, it would have knocked the breath out of her and she would have had to lay staring at the gorgeous blue sky...

However, having him catch her was a lot more fun and it meant she still got the thrill, without getting hurt. Winded she was, but only because of her exhilaration and doing too much too fast. She still had that whole new-vampire, then human thing going on so she didn't exactly know where her limits were anymore; right then, they were much less than when she was being a vampire. Either way, she just liked to push them.

His as you wish paused her for a moment, because she couldn't help but think of the Princess Bride, and naturally - because in her mind, it made sense - she told him, "Let's just stay away from swamps, okay? I'm not a fan of rats up to my waist."

And stretching machines. Those too. As he picked her up bridal style, she simply rewrapped her arms around his neck and rested her head against his chest, where she might have heard a heartbeat had they not been dead. Another connection...

Lost in her recollections of the book, Annie hadn't realized that Remington was basically zooming them up the stairs until he'd stopped, and she looked up to see the most...beautiful view, she thought she'd ever seen in her life. Sure, New York City at night was a sight to behold. Yes, Russia was gorgeous. She'd never been to Italy though, and looking at the expansive view laid out before her?

"Oh wow." Her voice was hushed, just taking in the visual feast laid out before her. She could see why he'd want to live there; it had a charm to it that made her just want to stay. "It's..." Of course, Annie did make the mistake of looking down, and any adjective proclaiming the gorgeousness of the view was lost to a squeak of, "...high."

She wasn't the kind of person not to do something because she was scared, but it still surprised her a little bit to see just how far up they were without the levels of height to break it down.

"No swamps. Check."

He was pretty sure he caught what story that was from. It wasn't like he hadn't heard them before, not when he was the one who tended to read to Clara when they were little. He looked at the veiw himself, realizing all over again why it was a much better place to be living than England. England had its appeal but Italy was home no matter what.

Remington smiled over her response though he hadn't actually really stopped smiling, she had that effect on him, and automatically held her a little tighter when she suddenly took note of how high up they were.

"Don't worry, I won't let you fall."

He was content with holding her anyways so he didn't mind about not putting her down if that's what made her more comfortable.

"See to the far left? A few of the cathedrals are over in that area. Massive ones with these old stained glass windows."

"You better not." Annie warned, biting her lip quite sheepishly as she looked at him. Annie really had no filter. What she thought, she said. And what she said sometimes sounded stupid. She'd just contradicted herself with wanting to go all the way up there to look and yet now she was sitting there feeling quite nervous, if her heartbeat was any indication. It was fluttering quite fast. Of course, being anywhere near him while she wasn't his equal of sorts made her do that anyways. And being pressed up against him? Even worse, as much as she liked it.

So she just made sure to take a deep breath, and allow herself to wrap that romantic notion of hers around her. He was holding her fast, they were in the Colosseum with no one else around them, looking over a view of Rome. And he just told her he wouldn't let her fall. If that wasn't story-perfect, then she didn't know what was.

Soon enough she was smiling again, eagerly following where he was leading her gaze. Thinking about stain glass windows made her tell him, "Oh I love those so much. And when the light's streaming through them and there's a kaleidoscope of colors everywhere?"

Remington had thought about bringing up his place over the fact that if she wanted to talk to she could find him, but that place was just...it felt weighed down by everything that got done there. There. That was the right wording. There were plenty of other places without so much to it that would be better. Besides, he didn't want to chance someone from the group making a visit and her being there. He was dead set on her remaining separate from that all.

"Looks like diamonds on the walls," he added. "There's a few museums downtown too. Where I live there's this huge clock tower and it looks so daunting but it's really peaceful."

Once he got talking he didn't filter so much then. It was easier to talk to Annie to begin with and not have to worry about saying something that would ultimately get back to someone that may want him dead or something. That was a ligament concern when he talked to people at times. Outside of it all he at least didn't have to be concerned about it.

"I should take you to one of the cafe's sometime. I think you'd like it."

"Diamonds on the wall..." Annie sighed, "Oh yes."

She really couldn't help it; she was a romance writer in love with the idea of love, letting herself fall easily and constantly with the little things. Like, the way he just described the cathedral. It was strong wording, beautiful imagery...

Ahem. Literature nerd moment = done.

"Daunting and yet..." Annie had been looking over where he was pointing, but at his description of where he lived, she returned her gaze back to him. For a moment, she just studied him, and then admitted quietly, "Much like you are. It sounds like the perfect place."

Really, Remington had been daunting. She'd been nervous to begin with with her little idea, and walking into an alleyway where a man stood in the shadows had been a pretty big step over nerves for her, especially after what had happened during that tour thing she'd gone on. There was just a way he carried himself, a confidence he alluded to...it was all factors in the strength he had. Yes, it could unnerve her, but like he'd said about the tower; it may seem some way at first, and actually be something else. He was just really sweet with her, and doing things like this? It was incredible.

"I love cafes." She then told him with a grin, a clear indication she'd love to go with him to just another cultural experience.

"I'd think I'm more complicated," Remington laughed.

Which it didn't really bother him either way what anyone thought of him. People were entitled to their own opinions of course. Probably how he had his opinion of Annie and she had hers of him. He at least hadn't judged her though he could admit to at first just a bit but that was because of her request the first time. He couldn't wrap his head around why anyone would choose that and he still couldn't, but now he got her reasons.

"We'll go to one where we can eat outside. Then you can see the buildings and people."

On a good way when he wasn't stuck in England tying up loose ends he was guilty of being in Italy doing just that.

"Well yes. But for people who haven't talked to you..." Annie paused, and forwent stability to bring a hand to his face instead, brushing her fingers along his cheek as she finished, "- you can seem really scary. And I'm sure if you wanted it to stay that way, it does."

It just wasn't for her any longer. Not only that, but she'd never been exactly scared; more like, intimidated. And yet, Annie was either determined enough or stupid enough to press on. Luckily, it'd turned into this...whatever it is. She didn't feel the need to title it, then. She was just having a lot of fun, and she was honestly really touched by what he had done for her that day.

"When it's warmer." She then suggested, with a little laugh, "Because I can sit and people watch all the time but I get cold really easily."

Something about her blood and how slight she was and all that medical blah shit she didn't give a care about.

Scary...that was new. Intimidating usually or closed off. Something like that. But scary was new but he figured to some it probably was about the right word to use then.

"Intimidating mostly. If their intimidated by me then they'll be more likely to not ask questions and simply do what I ask," he explained. "On the off chance I need something."

Remington nodded at the latter. That was understandable. He had just gotten so used to being out no matter the weather that he didn't typically stop to think that maybe certain times weren't the best times.

"There will be more people out then anyways."

Tourists no doubt, but people nonetheless.

"What do you think? This going to give you a place to write about?"

Annie couldn't help it; when Remington told her that by intimidating people they do what he says and doesn't ask questions about it, she wiggled a little and grinned at him. "And, do you think I would do that?"

To her, she liked to do things on the drop of a hat or just because she felt like it, but in asking for things to be done from other people, she was more the type to step back and ask why. Or make them work for it, depending on her mood. And although she had promised him repayment, she was curious to see what he viewed her reaction would be to being 'intimidated' into doing something without asking questions.

"Exactly. But that doesn't mean that we couldn't do other things." She added, practically beaming when he asked about her writing. Normal? Yes, this felt normal.

"Oh, absolutely. It's the perfect setting for ... well, basically anything. A first date where a girl is only giving the guy the first chance, or a proposal... " It was a happy sigh that followed her answer, closing her eyes to let the different scenes play out in her head.

"Just perfect." She finished.

Rem glanced down at Annie, responding with his own grin.

"I think I'd be more inclined to actually ask you than intimidate you."

He knew as nice as he was to her that at home or just in the company of anyone else he could change on the spot. It was more of if he wanted to and that went hand in hand with being generally nice. Certain people you just acted a certain way with.

Hearing her rattling off different things she could write he listened intently, having looked back out at the view.

"Romantic at heart them," Remington said, saying the assumption about her absently though he already basically knew that. "That makes one of us then."

"Well as long as you don't take all the fun out of convincing me." Annie returned, despite knowing that she would probably do whatever he wanted to do should he just ask. It was nicer that way; usually when people told her to do things she got pig headed. Not so much lately...but usually. To be honest, she kind of didn't want him to ask for repayment for a long time, if only because she felt that that would be the close. It would be the end of her debt to him, the base reason they were keeping with in order to see each other. And she didn't want it to be over.

At the same time though, she felt like she had asked a lot of him and therefore replaying him in some way would make things better.

Just out of curiosity, she asked, "Are you hungry?"

When he called her a romantic at heart then she nodded gravely, before looking at him and inquiring, "You don't believe in love?"

"Of course not if that's how you wanted it."

There were times it took him a moment to actually think if a response to things, but with Annie it was simple. There wasn't a need to censor anything nor to do so because of what she may think. He contradicted himself there because sometimes he did care about people's opinions, it just depended on whose it was.

"Depending on your definition, but no."

It was automatic to think of it two ways of course. At her question he simply shook his head.

"It wouldn't work very well with me anyways. Be it my attitude or my lifestyle."

Annie laughed, "Well don't do anything you don't want to do." Sheesh.

When he told her he wasn't hungry though, she nodded, and just let that rest. She, of course, was completely willing to help him out now and again with the blood when she wasn't being a vampire - kind of addicted to the sensuality of sharing - but that question was more her just wondering how he was feeling. If it was bothering him to be holding her, and the such.

"I don't believe that." She then told him, stubbornly. "Tell me something that you're passionate about? Tell me something that you can't imagine living without, or doing, or thinking about. Love doesn't necessarily mean a marriage, you know."

"Who says I don't want to?" Remington retorted.

The conversation it had actually turned into was interesting at best. Something he'd ignore typically but he was willing to give it a chance. He just wasn't sure he had a answer for it all. Her question even took a moment before he could answer.

"I don't know if it's the answer you're looking for but...It may be contradiction from what I said before about not needing or wanting friends, but I like to be surrounded by people. Just knowing their around. I don't like the silence."

Annie simply arched her eyebrow at him in some kind of challenge, more in amusement than anything else. To see what he would do, or see if there was an exception to that question, or what he would say. Either way, Remington didn't seem the kind of person she should probably be challenging, even in a joking way. Even for pure amusement.

Still, she was much more focused on the rest of their conversation, smiling when she got an actual answer.

"There you go. You love being surrounded by people. And you love being here with me." She stuck out her tongue at him, and then grinned, her point proven even with the joking.
